Each year, the Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition honors individuals, businesses, and childcare providers who go above and beyond to create breastfeeding-friendly environments. These awards shine a light on champions who are making a real difference.

IBCLC Scholarship Program
Our mission is to promote, support, and protect breastfeeding for all Maryland families. That means ensuring that the lactation workforce reflects the communities it serves.
Outreach to community groups of color across Maryland revealed a strong desire for breastfeeding education β and a clear barrier: the cost of tuition for college and lactation courses. Our scholarship program works to remove that barrier.
Who We Support
We provide financial support to people of color in Maryland who are pursuing IBCLC certification β covering tuition for college and lactation education courses required for credentialing.
Every scholarship awarded is a step toward a more equitable, diverse, and effective lactation support system for Maryland families.
World Breastfeeding Week & Month
Every August, we join thousands of organizations worldwide in celebrating and raising awareness about breastfeeding β because supporting breastfeeding is supporting global health.

August 1β7 Β· Initiated by WABA, with support from UNICEF and WHO β the global week of action on breastfeeding

All of August Β· Declared by the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee in 2011 β a full month of U.S. advocacy and education
During August, MDBFC participates in events, shares resources, amplifies family stories, and advocates for policies that make breastfeeding easier for every Maryland family.

Breastfeeding Welcome Here
Breastfeeding families deserve to feel welcome everywhere they go. Our Breastfeeding Welcome Here campaign invites Maryland businesses to publicly signal that nursing parents are valued and supported in their spaces.
Participating businesses receive a window cling, recognition on our platform, and the satisfaction of being a community health champion. Babies love people who make it easy for their mothers to breastfeed!
